80s Debate

The following is a debate I had with a friend of mine. By text message. Capitalization is added, and my lines are only approxamate because I deleted my sent messages

Me: What did you think of the new U2 album?
Eric: I think its really good. I was surprised. I havent listened to them in a few years probably
Eric: What do you think of it?

Me: I haven't listened to all of it, but I wasn't really impressed
Eric: Yeah you wouldnt be. Cunt

Me: Shut up. Alex gives me a hard enough time about my hatred of the 80s
Eric: haha good. You deserve 't

Me: The 80s suck
Eric: You suck

Me: But they really do suck alot
Eric: Yeah the 80s do suck. U2 Rem and the Cure are exceptions because they dont sound like
all the mainstream shit from back then and are actually talented

Me: I still think U2 sucked
Eric: Nope they didnt but whatever =)

Me: Just cuz they sound a little different from the other crap?
Eric: Yeah and thats why they succeeded lol

Eric: Listen to the Joshua Tree and then listen to Bon Jovi Guns 'n' Roses Van Halen or any
other band like that and tell me you don't hear a difference

Me: I don't need to. I already know they sound different
Eric: Yeah whatever lol

Me: Just because a band sounds different from the other crap doesn't make them better
Eric: Sure they can. You cant discriminate against whole decades of music. It's ignorant and
stupid lol

Me: Perhaps. But I still can't stand the 80s
Eric: Alright thats cool

Me: I don't think any bands formed before the 80s transitioned well, either
Eric: Sure. The Cure and U2 formed in the late 70s :-P but yeah mainstream music sucked in
the 80s. The overall production sound sucked in the 80s but things arent much different now

Me: I think that one reason the Beatles are one of the best bands ever is cuz they broke up before the 80s
Eric: Music runs in cycles and they are always exceptions

Me: Well yeah, all genres have exceptions to the rules
Eric: Yeah for sure

Me: I'm scared for the return of the 80s style
Eric: It kinda has. Im just waiting for whats next lol

Me: I guess you're right. So now my soul shudders in the dark while clinging to my Beatles and Mates of State albums
Eric: Haha

Me: I like me a good musical debate
Eric: Yeah. Its fun to do that sometimes lol

Eric: Haha cool

Me: Have you watched those videos I posted from that concert you left early?
Eric: I havent listened to them yet but ive been meaning to

Me: Definitely check out Ludo. They're a lot of fun
Eric: Cool. You should check out Against Me's last album

Me: Ok
Eric: Also check out Good Old War. theyre playing together on the 31st

Me: Cool. It sucks cuz alot of the bands I want to see aren't coming around here any time soon.
Eric: Ha yeah. Im seein Ben Folds on the 22nd and Death Cab (For Cutie) in michigan

Me: You're goin to see Death Cab? Lucky bastard...
Eric: Haha

This is to give you an idea of my opinion of the 80s as far as entertainment is concerned.
I currently have 8 days, 2 hours, 45 minutes, 19 seconds of music on my computer. Of that, I have 5 songs made in the 80s (outside of orchestral soundtracks).
On a good day I can come up with maybe 10 movies I enjoy, made during the 80s.
And I'm an 80s kid. Born January 5th 1986.
Sorry to disappoint you U2 fans and Bon Jovi fanatics. Freaks.

In other news, I got a replacement iPod this past week. Expect reviews of what's going into it.
